Arrive at the Temple of Hathor, the goddess of love, music, and beauty.
"Dendera" is the Arabic name for the ancient Egyptian town of "Eunt." Dendera's importance stems from its status as the main center for the worship of the goddess Hathor, whom the ancient Greeks identified with their goddess Aphrodite. The Temple of Dendera is one of the best-preserved Egyptian temples, a masterpiece of architecture, a unique example of art, and a comprehensive textbook of Egyptian religious thought.
The Temple of Dendera was built on the western bank of the Nile to worship the goddess Hathor, the goddess of love, beauty, and family among the ancient Egyptians. Its construction dates back to the Greco-Roman period, when King Ptolemy III built it from sandstone. Several Roman emperors added to it, extending its construction over a period of approximately 200 years.
The Temple of Dendera is one of the few temples in the world.
After your guided tour and free time to explore or photograph the temple, begin the drive back to Luxor.
